Everyone agrees that the volume of data we attempt to manage is exploding; however, the challenge is it not just about the volume (“Big Data”). In addition, we must consider velocity, variety and complexity of the data and together with volume, these define Extreme Data. Many challenges of information management (in support of BI, analytics, pattern-based strategies) can be addressed with improved understanding and competencies for dealing with extreme data.
