Data access management can pose a significant challenge to any organization. Traditional approaches strictly relying on relational data models and perimeter defenses usually fall short when the multitudes of variables emerging from a current landscape are considered. The modern data explosion and the increase in threat levels due to more sophisticated attack methods employed by organized crime, together with the proliferation of a myriad of data security and privacy regulations around the world, put a significant strain on mitigating controls considered last decade’s industry standards. An adequate governance model, proper data classification and retention standards, and sound data labeling techniques are paramount to achieve acceptable levels of data security throughout the full data lifecycle.
