John Simermeyer has been with the Social Security Administration (SSA) over 32 years. His career began in 1977 as a benefit authorizer in the Division of International Operations. Early career experiences included exposure to SSA field operations in the Management Intern Program and subsequently as an analyst in the Office of Field Operations. John moved to the Office of Systems in 1984 and held positions of increasing responsibility in the Office of Information Management (OIM), serving as Executive Officer and subsequently as a Division Director. As Director of the Division of Appeals and Disability Systems, John was responsible for software development and maintenance of systems supporting the Office of Hearings and Appeals’ headquarters and nationwide network of regional offices and hearing offices. Subsequently, John served as Director of the Division of Financial and Human Resource Systems, supporting the automation of the Agency’s financial, payroll and personnel systems through software development, Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) solutions, and Application Service Providers. Successfully completing SSA’s Senior Executive Service (SES) Candidate Development Program in January 2004, John was named Deputy Associate Commissioner for the Office of Earnings, Enumeration and Administrative Systems (OEEAS). He was subsequently selected as a member of the SES in July 2004. He served as Acting Associate Commissioner for the Office of Disability Systems from March 2006 through January 2007. As Associate Commissioner for the Office of Earnings, Enumeration and Administrative Systems since August 2007, John is responsible for the development and maintenance of software supporting earnings, enumeration, human resources, financial management, business intelligence, audit and integrity review, and information exchanges and verifications with external partners. John graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). He lives with his wife and two daughters in Carroll County, Maryland.
