Most IT operations groups have embraced IT service management as a goal for operational excellence. However, many incorrectly focus on the IT service catalog first. We recommend documenting the business-value-based IT service portfolio first then creating the catalog of standard, repeatable services that can be ordered by business customers. Unfortunately, only about 10% of IT operations groups are capable of this today. This session provides insight on the people, process and tool demands for IT service portfolio management and IT service catalogs.
