Every cloud-based offering needs to reside in a physical data center or data centers, and those facilities need to be able to support high-performance computing, next-generation power and cooling as well as virtualization. The key question is whether you need to build or own facilities or simply move to a pay-per-utilization model. This decision will hinge upon the composition and complexity of your applications, security and integration needs and, most importantly, your ability to shift control of the infrastructure to the providers and concentrate on developing SOA-based frameworks, building social network functionality and moving your organization to Web native experts.
